At Butterflies, we ensure that your child is engaged in the right kind of activities and we will record your child’s progress and achievements for the duration of their time with us, via our Key Worker system.
Key Worker System
At Butterflies we operate a key worker system which enables us to meet the individual needs of your child. Your child’s key worker will be responsible for encouraging your child’s learning and development and they will help to plan and provide a stimulating environment and help them to enjoy fun activities based on the Early Years Foundation Stage.
During the day, your child’s key worker will complete a “Daily Diary” which will inform you about the activities your child has enjoyed that day, what they have eaten, nappy changes, sleep times and comments and observations. We invite you to take the Daily Diary home with you every evening upon collecting your child so that you can add any comments for your key worker for the following day when you return the Diary. In this way we encourage partnership with parents to help to support your child’s progress and development.
Your child’s key worker will identify your child’s individual learning goals and will ensure that your child receives the best care and education during their time with us.
Observations & Assessments
Your child’s key worker will ensure that they are engaging in the right kind of activities and they will record your child’s progress, achievements and development interests, for the duration of their time with us. Observations are evaluated and linked to the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) Curriculum and your child’s progress is monitored and recorded in their individual learning portfolio. We encourage you to view your child’s journal at any time. This helps to plan future experiences and opportunities to build your child’s knowledge, skills and abilities which will lead to new learning and development.
Observations are key instances of where your child has encountered a new experience or done something differently or made a significant learning step. Observations can be recorded at the nursery or at home and can be recorded by parents, family, team members, or anyone who has come into contact with your child.
Your child’s key worker will record in-depth observations about the activities that your child has been engaged in and the observations which will often take the form of short comments or photographs that are recorded via our Planning Sheets. In this way we are able to identify the activities that your child enjoys and develop their learning experiences which support the interests and future learning of your child.
