Nursery Update March 2013
With the official start of Spring in March and Easter also falling in March this year, we have decided that the theme for this month will be Spring and Easter. This will be broken down into the weekly themes of weather, spring animals, flowers and plants and Easter. We will also be celebrating mother’s day and St Patrick’s Day by taking part in some fun creative activities.
The babies will enjoy looking at spring weather by taking part in lots of creative activities including making cotton wool clouds, using yellow paint and glitter to make a sun and using black and white paint and their hands to create grey clouds. They will enjoy looking at spring animals and making fluffy bunnies and Easter chicks and they will be creating a tree using their hand prints and footprints and will enjoy using bubble wrap to create colourful flowers. For Easter they will be using lots of bright colours to create Easter eggs, will be making Easter baskets and will have fun taking part in an Easter egg hunt in their sand tray. They will also enjoy singing songs including ‘Hop Little Bunnies’ and ‘3 Little Frogs’
Toddlers will enjoy decorating their room with the weather mobiles they will be creating using lots of different materials. They will enjoy getting messy with black and white paint to create a cloudy day and will be making their very own weather chart which they can use in circle time to discuss the weather each day. They will be looking at spring animals and will be making finger print lambs and bunny masks. They will also enjoy singing songs including ‘Hop Little Bunnies’ and ‘3 Little Frogs’. They will be using bubble wrap to create beautiful purple hydrangeas, use their hands to create hand print flowers and will enjoy creating stained glass window flowers to put in their windows. They will also have the chance to plant their very own sunflowers and watch them grow. For Easter the children will be painting and decorating their own Easter eggs, making Easter chicks and will have fun taking part in an Easter egg hunt.
The Pre-School children will be making different weather mobiles to hang in their room and they will be making their own weather charts so they can discuss the weather each day. They will incorporate maths by using cotton wool clouds to practice counting and we will incorporate phonics by looking at weather sounds. When looking at spring animals they will be getting creative by making hand print bunnies, paper plate chicks and cotton wool lambs. We will incorporate counting by using lily pads and frogs and we will be looking at the life cycle of a chicken. They will also enjoy singing songs including ‘Hop Little Bunnies’ and ‘3 Little Frogs’. They will enjoy looking at plants and flowers and using cotton buds to make dandelions and hand prints and tissue paper to make flowers. We will look at and investigate the plant cycle and the children will be able to plant their own seeds and watch them grow. They will also get the chance to go and look at a variety of plants and flowers with a trip to the Garden Centre. For Easter the children will be painting and decorating their own Easter eggs using lots of different .materials and we will incorporate maths by colour sorting using Easter eggs. They will also have lots of fun by taking part in an Easter egg hunt around the nursery
