Nursery Update June 2013

The monthly theme for June is ‘My Body and Healthy Eating’.

Babies

When looking at ‘my body’ the babies will enjoy making prints of their hands and feet, and using paint and paint brushes to paint a body shape. They will learn about their body parts by learning the song ‘Head, shoulders, knees and toes’. For healthy eating the babies will take part in using different fruit and vegetables for printing and they will stick their favourite fruit and vegetables onto their paper plates. They will enjoy learning the song ‘Apples and bananas’.

Toddlers 

The toddlers will be learning the importance of washing their hands through our glitter hand washing experiment and singing the song ‘This is the way we wash our hands’, be making cotton wool teeth and learning about bones by sticking bones to form a skeleton. They will take prints of their hands and feet and will do their own self portraits using mirrors. They will learn about healthy eating by taking part in a fruit tasting session and trying lots of new and different fruits. They will get creative by using lots of different fruit and vegetables for printing and will pick pictures of their favourite fruit and vegetables to stick on their paper plates. They will enjoy being read the story ‘Handa’s Surprise’ and will sing lots of songs including ‘Head, shoulders, knees and toes’.Pre-SchoolThe children in pre-school will be learning about the importance of staying fit and healthy. They will go to the local park and take part in races and will describe how they feel before  and after running by feeling their heart beat. They will discuss what foods are good for us by sorting them into healthy and unhealthy foods and they will be creating a fruit and vegetable rainbow and linking maths by sorting pictures of fruit and vegetables into different colours. They will also take part in a fruit tasting session by trying lots of new and different fruits. They will discuss their facial features and will do their own self portraits using mirrors. They will learn the importance of washing their hands through taking part in our glitter hand washing experiment, will learn about bones by cutting and sticking bones to form a skeleton and will learn about keeping our teeth healthy by sorting foods and drinks into what is good for our teeth and what is bad for our teeth. They will enjoy singing songs such as ‘Head, shoulders, knees and toes’ and ‘Apples and bananas’.
