Nursery Update May 2013


This month the theme is mini-beasts. We will be looking at all different types of mini-beasts throughout the month and we will also spend a week doing lots of different activities based on the book ‘The Very Hungry Caterpillar’.

Babies

The babies will enjoy taking part in lots of creative activities including foot print butterflies, paper plate ladybirds, tissue paper beetles, leaf printing and making their own ‘very hungry caterpillar’ and all his fruit to eat. They will sing lots of songs to do with bugs and insects including ‘Incy Wincy Spider’ and will enjoy role play activities such as ‘we’re going on a mini-beast hunt’.

Toddlers

Toddlers will learn all about mini-beasts this month and will take part in fun mathematics activities such as making spiders and counting their legs. They will enjoy taking magnifying glasses into the garden to look for different bugs and insects and enjoy playing in their texture tray with leaves, twigs and the small world bugs. They will take part in lots of different creative activities including making bee hives using bubble wrap, paper plate ladybirds and making ‘very hungry caterpillars. They will use mini-beast role play masks and read lots of insect books including ‘Bugs for Lunch’ and ‘The Very Hungry Caterpillar’

Pre-School

The children in pre-school will enjoy learning about bugs and insects and going on a mini-beast hunt with their clipboards and ticking off the different mini-beasts they see on their walk. They will take part in lots of different creative activities including paper bowl ladybirds, paper plate spiders, making beehives using bubble wrap and incorporating maths by making caterpillars using semi-circles and circles. They will enjoy reading ‘The Very Hungry Caterpillar’ story and taking part in lots of ‘Very Hungry Caterpillar’ activities such as counting all the fruit the caterpillar eats in the story and learning about healthy eating.
