This month the theme is going to be ‘people who help us’. All the children in the nursery will be looking at ‘people who help us stay healthy’ including doctors, nurses, ambulance drivers, paramedics, dentists and vets; ‘people who help us stay safe’ including firemen, police officers and lifeboat men and they will be learning about road safety including the job of a lollipop person. The children will get a visit from the firemen from Wimbledon Fire Station who will bring their fire engine along for the children to have a look around and we will be taking the children to visit the local lollipop person who will show them how to cross the road safely.
The babies will enjoy role playing doctors and nurses by caring for their friends using their doctor’s kit, bandages and plasters. They will also be nursing back to health their soft toys when role playing in the vets surgery. They will be creative by creating x-rays of their hands using black card and white paint and by painting doctors and nurses. The babies will enjoy playing with their emergency vehicles including police cars and fire engines. They will enjoy getting messy by using red, yellow and orange paint and their hands to create flames and decorating a police car.
The toddlers will enjoy taking part in lots of role play activities and dressing up as doctors, nurses, police officers and firemen. We will be setting up our own Butterflies Hospital where the children will be using their doctor’s kit and first aid kit to treat their friends. They will be creating x-rays of their arms and hands by using black card, white chalk and cotton buds; they will be using white paint and toothbrushes to paint their teeth and they will be making their very own doctors kit. They will turn into firemen and use spray bottles in the water area to put out the flames; they will be incorporating maths by using different shapes to make a fire engine and they will be able to make their very own police officer badge.
